Job summary

Trimble’s Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies division in Christchurch, New Zealand, seeks a Team Lead to mentor a small software team building embedded Linux and web-based applications for earthmoving machinery.

You will blend hands-on coding with leadership, guiding features from concept to delivery across time zones in a collaborative, values-driven environment that supports Belong, Grow and Innovate.

Qualifications

• Senior or Lead level software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in C++ and web development technologies (Angular/TypeScript).
• Experience leading and owning projects from conception to completion.
• Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience managing projects across multiple time zones.
• Bonus: experience with globally dispersed teams.

• Mentor and develop a small team of software engineers and testers through goal setting, career planning, and performance management.
• Provide technical leadership and remove blockers to facilitate the development of embedded Linux and web-based applications using C++, Angular, and TypeScript.
• Drive continuous improvements in software development processes by collaborating across geographically dispersed CTCT sites.
• Prioritize and allocate tasks effectively to ensure efficient delivery of software features for earthmoving and paving solutions.

Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT)

The CTCT division is a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar. We develop positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GPS, optical total stations, lasers, and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Solid professional experience as a Software Engineer at a Senior or Lead level.
• Proficiency in C++ and/or Web Development technologies.
• Demonstrated success leading and owning projects from conception to completion.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and proactive problem-solving abilities.
• Experience managing projects within fast-paced environments, ideally across multiple time zones.
• Bonus Points For Prior experience working with globally dispersed engineering teams.
