The Software teams at Rocket Lab cater to unique business needs that encompass the support, maintenance, and expansion of crucial systems such as the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for building rockets and satellites, as well as developing Mission Control applications and telemetry and telecommand platforms essential for their operation. A typical day consists of collaborating with avionics and manufacturing engineers to develop, improve and support software-applications to functionally test spacecraft-components and systems for our launch vehicles (Electron, Neutron) and Space-System programs.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER II – PRODUCTION AUTOMATION

In this role you will play a crucial role in developing, improving, and supporting software applications that test spacecraft components and systems for the Electron launch vehicle. You will collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders across Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure our tools are not only fit for purpose but also intuitive and user-friendly.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Software Development: Engage in software development activities to support Avionics Production Acceptance Testing, Vehicle Component Acceptance Testing, and Vehicle Integrated Systems Testing.
  • Integration: Work on the integration of computerised production systems and support software applications within a production environment.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with stakeholders, lead software demonstrations, and train software product users.
  • Project Management: Identify additional projects, set group/business priorities, and continuously deliver on-time, exceeding initial goals through technical expertise.

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent knowledge.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a software engineering-related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++ development, and software development on a Linux platform.
  • Ability to define standards of excellence, navigate complex technical systems, and coach others in best practices.
  • Strong ability to communicate with peers, subordinates, and superiors, ensuring meetings stay on track and technical information is conveyed concisely.
  • Positive, approachable, and consistently demonstrating a "How can I help?" mentality. You see challenges as motivation and continually raise the standard of excellence.
  • Experience with Git or similar source code management tools and Jira or similar issue trackers.

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Embedded systems programming experience.
