Job description

Help design and deliver a cloud-native, multi-tenant SaaS platform. Lead platform standards, scalability, and security across the organisation. This is a 3 - 6 month contract, Christchurch-based.

Play a leading role in architecting a secure, scalable SaaS platform

What our client can offer:

Our client is building a next-generation SaaS platform at the cutting edge of cloud-native technology. This is an opportunity to step into a senior architect role during a critical design and build phase, where your expertise will directly shape the foundations of a scalable, secure, multi-tenant product. Working alongside a highly skilled product and engineering team, you’ll be part of a fast-paced, collaborative environment where architecture decisions will have a lasting impact.

What you will do:

As a Cloud Platform Architect, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping a next-generation SaaS platform. You’ll take ownership of the cloud-native architecture, leading the design of a Kubernetes-based environment and an internal developer platform that enables secure, scalable, and seamless delivery. From defining best-practice architecture patterns to advising on technology selection, scalability, and compliance, you’ll work closely with product management, engineering, and operations to ensure the technical strategy aligns with business goals.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll guide and mentor engineers in Kubernetes, DevOps practices, and cloud-native tooling, while also setting the standards that will underpin the platform for years to come. Along the way, you’ll support the team in implementing multi-tenant security models, ensuring tenant isolation, and embedding observability, resiliency, and cost optimisation at the heart of the solution.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

  • Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes and AWS (EKS, RDS, S3, IAM).
  • Strong background in microservices, SaaS architectures, and multi-tenant platforms.
  • Proven experience with IaC (Terraform, Pulumi, OpenTofu) and CI/CD/GitOps (ArgoCD, Flux, GitHub/GitLab).
  • Strong knowledge of networking, service mesh, security, and observability.
  • The ability to balance strategic architecture thinking with hands-on prototyping and delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach.

Bonus points if you have exposure to CNCF ecosystem tools (Crossplane, Backstage, Kyverno), developer experience platforms, or FinOps practices.

This role requires an immediate start, so candidates based in Christchurch and available to begin straight away will be prioritised.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
