About Us

Te Kāika is a kaupapa Māori health and social services provider dedicated to delivering holistic, whānau-centred care across Otago. Guided by the principle of He Korowai Manaaki, a cloak of care and support, we work to address not only individual health needs but also the broader wellbeing of whānau and communities.

About the role

The Social Worker role at Te Kāika is grounded in our kaupapa Māori vision to support mokopuna, whānau, hapū, and iwi in achieving holistic wellbeing. The Social Worker will operate flexibly across Te Kāika services, responding to organisational needs and direction from line management.

This role is responsible for developing and supporting systems and processes that ensure coordinated and facilitated wraparound services, activities, and opportunities. These are designed to effectively support mokopuna, whānau, and kaitiaki whānau engaged with Te Kāika, in alignment with our commitment to integrated, whānau-centred care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage your own caseload, ensuring the needs of mokopuna and whānau are prioritised.
  • Deliver safe, effective, and culturally appropriate interventions aligned with Te Kāika values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Collaborate professionally across Te Kāika Social Services and Primary Health Services to provide wraparound care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, reporting, and case notes in line with professional standards.
  • Uphold all relevant legislation, including the Oranga Tamariki Act, Health and Disability Act, and National Care Standards.
  • Engage in regular supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development.
  • Build and sustain strong internal and inter-agency relationships, including with mana whenua and community partners.
  • Participate in the after-hours on-call roster (including weekends and public holidays).
  • Contribute positively to the Te Kāika team culture and uphold the mana of the organisation in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to accurately record and manage data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel) and the ability to learn internal systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A collaborative mindset, working alongside other Te Kāika services to deliver integrated support to whānau

If you are a Social Worker who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of mokopuna and whānau, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity.
