We work as one team, supporting each other to deliver for communities and businesses across the country.

As a Signals Field Engineer in the Auckland Metro, you will play a key role in maintaining and upgrading our signalling systems. You’ll ensure the safe and efficient operation of critical rail infrastructure, carrying out inspections, fault diagnosis, repairs, and commissioning work. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work outdoors, often in a live rail environment. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across maintenance and operations to keep services running smoothly and safely.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and upgrade signalling systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of critical rail infrastructure, carrying out inspections, fault diagnosis, repairs, and commissioning work.
  • Work outdoors in a live rail environment and collaborate with colleagues across maintenance and operations to keep services running smoothly and safely.
  • Adopt a safety-first mindset and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Support project delivery and commissioning activities as part of ongoing railway improvements.
Qualifications
  • An engineering qualification in electrical, electronic, or signalling (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with signalling systems, ideally in rail or a similar safety-critical environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Clear communication and a commitment to safety at all times.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Knowledge of rail industry standards and practices.
