Job summary

A community-focused playcentre in Wellington is seeking a motivated session facilitator. This permanent role involves guiding session activities and facilitating learning through child-led play. Candidates should hold relevant qualifications and possess a passion for the Playcentre philosophy. Experience and knowledge of Te Whariki are desirable. The position is school-term only, requiring 4 hours per week on Wednesdays.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must have the Playcentre C3 qualification or equivalent.
  • A current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Knowledge of Te Whariki and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Responsibilities

  • Guide session activities and facilitate learning through child-led play.
  • Model Playcentre philosophy and support whānau.
  • Create an inclusive environment for all whānau.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic session facilitator to join our well-resourced and vibrant Playcentre Community. You will work alongside our members and tamariki to guide session activities, facilitate learning using child led play and positive guidance. You will be a hands-on team member who encourages others to thrive; you will model Playcentre philosophy and good practice while supporting whānau to gain confidence to have a go themselves.

Days & hours:

Wednesdays 8:45am–12:45pm, 4 hours per week. This is a permanent position, during school term time only.

The candidate must have:

  • The Playcentre C3 qualification or the New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care L4 or a higher ECE qualification or a Primary Teaching qualification with the Playcentre Primary Teacher Bridging Award, for licencing purposes.
  • A current First Aid Certificate or be prepared to complete this.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy;
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to apply Te Whariki and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
  • Great time management and with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and experience at centre level communicating with both tamariki and adults;
  • An ability to support and empower parents, whanau, and caregivers in their role as Kaiako.
  • A willingness to upskill and meet new Playcentre qualification requirements as required;
  • Confidence when speaking within a group.
  • A passion for supporting Te Reo Māori and tikanga and engaging all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our session.
