Job summary

Aria Playcentre is seeking a motivated session facilitator to join their community for one 3-hour session each week. You will work with members and children to guide activities, support learning stories, and foster a nurturing environment aligned with Playcentre philosophy. Ideal candidates will hold relevant qualifications and have a passion for early childhood education, support of te reo Māori, and enthusiastic engagement with families.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification or higher early childhood qualification.
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Guide session activities and facilitate learning using child-led play.
  • Support parents in their roles as kaiako and cater to children's needs.

Job description

Aria Playcentre are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic session facilitator to join our well-resourced Playcentre Community for one session per week. You will work alongside our members and tamariki to guide session activities, facilitate learning using child-led play and positive guidance, support the writing of learning stories, and positively support the Playcentre education programme.

Purpose of the position:

To assist parents/caregivers and whānau on session to ensure sessions run smoothly, parents are supported in their role as kaiako and children’s needs are catered for, while role modelling Playcentre philosophy and current practices.

Start date: As soon as possible.

Days & hours:

Tuesday morning sessions, 3 hours per week – this is inclusive of 30 mins non-contact time. This is a permanent position during term time only.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification, or higher early childhood qualification;
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate; or be prepared to achieve this.

Desirable skills and experience will include:

  • A passion for Playcentre and our philosophy;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience at centre level with tamariki and adults;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Te Whāriki and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
  • Ability to support and empower parents, whānau and caregivers in their role as kaiako;
  • Passion for supporting te reo Māori and tikanga and engaging all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our sessions.
