Job description

  • Enjoy varied and interesting work in our Christchurch office and on site
  • Assure safe, quality service delivery through our partners and asset performance
  • Drive performance, risk management, outage optimisation and fault response

Transpower owns and operates New Zealand's National Grid - the unique High Voltage transmission network connecting areas of generation with towns and cities nationwide.

With a whole-of-industry view of the electricity sector, we are at the forefront of New Zealand's electricity transformation. With work volume expected to double, our people are enabling accelerated electrification and a sustainable, net zero carbon future.

About The Team

Our Grid Delivery division is accountable for the delivery of all work across New Zealand's transmission network. This includes project and maintenance work, delivered in conjunction with our service provider organisations. Transpower delivers approximately $500M capex and $150M in opex per annum.

About The Opportunity – Due To Internal Promotion

Make a positive impact for customers and the communities we serve. Working closely with service providers across your regional area, you'll help ensure work is delivered safely, to agreed standards, and with accurate maintenance and asset information. Your assurance focus will span safety, quality, commissioning, defect prioritisation, and service provider readiness.

Alongside your peer Delivery Managers (site custodians) and Service Performance Managers (performance champions), you'll help deliver the work programme for your Regional Service Contract area and support event response to achieve service level goals while minimising and optimising grid outages.

Working with our contracted service providers, work schedulers and project managers, you'll ensure work is completed safely, to plan, and to agreed standards. By building positive relationships and encouraging best practice in a technically challenging environment, you'll help minimise human error and equipment-related faults, support fast resolution, and reduce service interruptions. Working alongside Grid Investigations and project teams, you'll also contribute to:

  • Providing operational input into the development of Business Cases
  • Upgrades and asset replacements (Grid Enhancements)
  • Accepting new assets onto the grid, ensuring they are fit for purpose and successfully transitioned to operational assets
What will you bring?

You'll be practically minded, with well-developed relationship management and influencing skills, sound judgement, and a performance orientation. A full, clean driver's licence and ability to travel will enable you to visit sites across your regional area. Previous roles will have strengthened your ability to anticipate issues, investigate, and solve problems at pace, both in the office and on site. Confident using maintenance management systems and asset data and your known for your productive collaboration and influence. You'll enable quick wins while maintaining the tenacity to lift practice and drive continuous improvement over the long term.

Your CV and cover letter will clearly articulate:
  • Good understanding of operational performance management, ideally including reliability-centred maintenance
  • Understanding of transmission assets and their role in service delivery; substation experience is advantageous
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, and experience using electronic maintenance management systems (e.g. Maximo)
  • Sound assurance experience, preferably field-based and partnering with service providers
  • A relevant degree, tertiary or industry qualification, or equivalent experience in the industry or similar environments
