Hamilton City Council is seeking a Team Leader for Urban and Spatial Planning to provide leadership and strategic direction for urban development. You will lead the team to deliver best practice planning, build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and drive collaboration with sub-regional partners to unlock Hamilton’s full potential.

• Tertiary qualification in Planning, Resource Management, Urban Design, Social Science, or a related field.
• At least 10 years’ experience in a senior role with a focus on urban development and implementation.
• Full NZPI membership or ability to become a full member.
• People and leadership experience, including leading diverse professional teams.
• Understanding of strategic planning, plan development, community engagement and public consultation.
• Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven experience leading and delivering complex projects, including hearings, mediation, and expert witness appearance.
• Knowledge of Local Government Act 2002 and related legislation.
• Current full NZ driver’s license.
• Competent with MS Office applications.

• Lead and grow Council’s approach to best practice urban planning.
• Promote and model collaboration sub-regionally.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the Unit Director, business units, elected members, Iwi and major developers.
