Job summary

Stats NZ is seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer in Wellington to help build and improve information and data services that support quality data and statistics for New Zealand.

You will plan and execute both functional and non-functional testing across a significant project, develop automated testing frameworks, and collaborate with diverse teams to deliver robust, reliable solutions. This fixed-term role runs through December 2028.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years' experience in software testing, including automation.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Knowledge of testing methodologies, tools and frameworks like Selenium and Pytest.
• Experience with CI/CD practices and tools (Azure DevOps, Git).
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms (Databricks/Snowflake) and BDD with Gherkin.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute functional and non-functional testing across projects.
• Develop and implement test strategies, plans and approaches.
• Identify, track and manage defects with defect management tools.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure quality.
• Contribute to test reviews and ensure coverage aligns with standards.
