Job summary

Stantec in New Zealand is seeking a Senior Substation Design Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary design of MV/HV/EHV substations for local and global clients from Auckland. You will coordinate planning, design, and delivery, ensuring schedules and technical quality while mentoring juniors.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of direct HV substation design experience, familiarity with relevant tools, and a proactive, collaborative approach to complex projects in a dynamic, global firm.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus.
• Experience with power system analysis tools (DigSILENT, CYMCAP, PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS).
• Experience with numerical computation tools (MathCAD, MATLAB, Python).
• Field experience in commissioning and testing.
• Chartership (CPEng) or plan to attain chartership; company supports it.

Responsibilities

• Perform load flow, short circuit, protection, grounding, and insulation coordination studies.
• Design substations including switchyard layouts, grounding plans, cable routing, and schematics.
• Prepare technical specifications for major equipment procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with other disciplines.
