Job summary

Christchurch City Council is seeking an experienced Senior Resources and Stormwater Engineer to lead a team delivering stormwater infrastructure for growth and resilience in our city. You’ll shape design management, review internal and consultant designs, and provide technical leadership across the capital works programme.

You will mentor engineers, drive best practice, and collaborate with asset owners, project managers, and contractors to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Qualifications

• A four-year university degree in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status required.
• A minimum of 12 years' post-graduate experience in civil and stormwater engineering.
• Significant design experience across stormwater and Three Waters infrastructure.
• Proven leadership experience with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, flood management, and drainage design.
• Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and contract documentation.
• Knowledge of resource consenting processes and environmental considerations.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and technical direction within a high-performing engineering team.
• Review and approve internal and consultant stormwater designs.
• Ensure design solutions deliver optimal whole-of-life asset outcomes.
• Act as the Council's senior technical authority for stormwater engineering matters.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practice.
• Build strong relationships with asset owners, project managers, consultants, and contractors.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and design management across complex projects.
• Support delivery of the Council's capital investment programme.
• Champion QA, engineering best practice, and technical standards.
