Senior Modeller – Stormwater

We’re seeking a Principal / Senior Modeller to join our team in New Zealand, focusing on stormwater hydraulic modelling and leading impactful projects that shape the future of urban stormwater management. We are flexible where this role is located in New Zealand - ideally one of our main office locations of Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

About the Role:

As a Principal / Senior Modeller in Stantec’s Network Planning team, you’ll lead stormwater hydraulic modelling projects, delivering high-quality solutions to improve urban infrastructure. You’ll work on both local and international projects, applying global best practices and local expertise. Your role will include managing technical modelling activities, ensuring projects meet client expectations and are completed efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Technical Oversight: Lead stormwater hydraulic modelling projects and teams, ensuring high-quality outcomes and integration of best practices.
  • Client Interaction & Project Delivery: Liaise with clients, both internal and external to understand their needs, and ensure timely delivery within budget and scope.
  • Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions for stormwater management.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior staff, fostering skills development and maintaining project standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure rigorous QA/QC processes throughout the project lifecycle.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Proven experience in stormwater hydraulic modelling, especially using InfoWorks ICM (other software such as DHI Mike or Tuflow, is a plus. HEC-HMS/RAS desirable. Preferred candidates will also have experience in open channel drainage assessments.
  • Skills: Strong GIS and data analysis expertise to support modelling.
  • Leadership: Proactive, with the ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Innovative Mindset: Creative problem-solving for complex stormwater challenges.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
