Qualifications

  • Bachelor's qualification in Speech-Language Therapy.
  • Registered with NZSTA with current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • 6+ years post-graduate clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  • Advanced skills in FEES, Videofluoroscopy, SVR and tracheostomy management.
  • Understanding of bicultural issues and the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Effective time management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage dysphagia and communication impairment in ORL/Head and Neck Cancer patients.
  • Lead outpatient caseload for voice and upper airway.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Speech language Therapist to join our Speech-language Therapy team at Auckland City Hospital. This position is a full time (1.0FTE), Senior Speech-language Therapist position based in speciality of Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) at Auckland City Hospital.

About the Role

We are looking for a New Zealand registered Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated, supportive and friendly Adult Speech-Language Therapy team based at Auckland City Hospital. This is a permanent full time (40 hours/ week) position. This role will be based in the ORL outpatient service with some in reach to the acute adult inpatient wards at Auckland City Hospital. You will work alongside a supportive interdisciplinary team, and part of one of the largest Speech-language therapy services in New Zealand.

  • Have advanced skills in the assessment and management of dysphagia and communication impairment in patients under the care of the ORL/Head and Neck Cancer Service here at Auckland City Hospital.
  • Have experience and interest in the assessment and management of voice disorders, including the use of flexible nasendoscopy and stroboscopy.
  • Proactively work on an outpatient caseload, including voice and upper airway, delivering high quality evidence based clinical care.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary clinics working alongside Laryngology and other specialists.
  • Advanced skills in FEES, VFSS, tracheostomy management and SVRCollaborate with team members and other work groups to achieve service objectives.
  • Collaborate with team members and other work groups to achieve service objectives.
  • Work on developing positive working relationships with our clients / patients/ whānau.
  • Coaching and supervising colleagues.

About the Team/Service/ Location

This role is based at Auckland City Hospital. The Speech-language Therapy team is highly skilled and part of the larger Allied Health team in Clinical Support Services. The Speech-language Therapy team work across a range of specialist areas including stroke, neurology, rehabilitation, respiratory, trauma, general medicine, oncology, haematology, neurosurgery, other surgical wards as required and older persons health. The ORL Speech-language team work alongside the acute and critical care Speech-language Therapy subservices, in a range of extended scope of practice areas including FEES, VFSS, SVR and tracheostomy management.

About you

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's qualification in Speech-Language Therapy or equivalent
  • Registered member of the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists Association (NZSTA) with current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • At least 6 years post-graduate clinical experience working as a Speech-language therapist, preferably in a hospital setting, with experience working within an acute surgical, head and neck cancer service, and outpatients
  • You will be expected to deliver high quality evidence based clinical care, with an advanced level of skill in the use of FEES, Videofluoroscopy, SVR and tracheostomy management
  • An understanding of bicultural issues and commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Effective time management, flexibility, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • Drive, energy and initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
