Job description

Senior Regulatory Advisor - Grid Pricing
  • Bring your regulated environment experience
  • Provide intellectual leadership on regulatory matters
  • Lead consultation, engagement and regulatory policy work

Transpower is the commercially focused and regulated State-Owned Enterprise that owns and operates the National Grid. At the very heart of the energy sector, we transport electricity from where it is generated to large electricity users and the distribution companies who deliver it to homes and businesses nationwide.

To play an active role in decarbonising the economy and reducing emissions through accelerated electrification, we continue to improve, accelerate, and scale as we look towards rapidly growing demand for clean energy, new technology, more complex power flows, and changing customer and consumer expectations.

About the team

Our Grid Pricing team is responsible for delivering the grid pricing function that determines how Transpower’s costs as owner and operator of the National Grid are recovered from customers. This includes implementing the Electricity Authority’s Transmission Pricing Methodology (TPM), recovering Transpower’s regulated costs as grid owner, and supporting pricing under investment contracts for new connection assets.

About the opportunity

As Senior Regulatory Advisor – Grid Pricing, you will provide intellectual leadership on regulatory matters within the Grid Pricing team and across Transpower. You’ll lead and coordinate consultation, stakeholder engagement and regulatory policy work, including formal consultation processes, regulatory responses, and engagement with customers, stakeholders and industry regulators.

Working cross-business with technical experts, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Communications, Legal, Customer and Commercial, and Strategy & Regulation, you’ll help translate complex pricing, modelling and regulatory information into clear, accessible materials that support informed stakeholder participation and transparent decision-making.

In this role you will

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver high-quality TPM consultation and engagement materials, including consultation documents, supporting information, presentations, FAQs and briefings
  • Translate complex pricing, modelling and regulatory information into clear messages for customers, stakeholders and internal audiences
  • Maintain Grid Pricing’s stakeholder engagement plan and consultation schedule, aligned with Transpower’s wider customer engagement approach
  • Coordinate stakeholder feedback and submissions, ensuring issues are captured, assessed, responded to and escalated appropriately
  • Lead Grid Pricing’s case management capability, including documented processes and standardised templates for stakeholder queries, requests and submissions
  • Support regulatory policy development, including the TPM Operational Review, technical amendments, regulatory responses and pricing-related disclosures
What will you bring?

To be considered, you’ll bring at least five years’ relevant experience and a strong track record delivering clear, persuasive communications, consultation and engagement in complex or regulated environments. You’ll be able to build trusted relationships, work constructively across organisational boundaries, and influence others to get things done.

Experience in communications, public policy, stakeholder relations, law, economics or a related discipline will be highly valued, whether gained through work experience, tertiary study, or an equivalent combination of both.

Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
  • Experience delivering high-quality, transparent and principled consultation and engagement materials and processes, to plan and on time
  • Proven ability to communicate technically complex subject matter clearly, accessibly and persuasively for different audiences
  • Ability to work pragmatically with complexity and technical detail within legally binding regulatory frameworks
  • Sound judgement and the ability to balance necessary detail with a strategic “all of Transpower” perspective
  • Proven ability to surface, conceptualise, frame and progress key issues at pace, with agility and a focus on delivery across the short, medium and long term
  • Experience building constructive relationships with customers, stakeholders, industry participants, regulators and/or policy influencers
