Senior Project Manager – Commercial Construction

Slate Architecture & Construction are a multi-disciplinary architecture and construction group, delivering remarkable residential homes and commercial projects across New Zealand. In continuing with their expansion into commercial construction, they have an exciting, new opportunity for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join their well-established team, which is heavily involved with both commercial and high-end residential projects in Taranaki and across New Zealand.

This role will be based in New Plymouth but will involve project managing both local and national out-of-region remote projects. It is a pivotal part of their growth within the commercial construction sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial construction, contractor management, and authority. Responsibilities include full-cycle project management across commercial and high-end residential projects, communication and relationship management with clients and stakeholders, and providing leadership to team members to foster a strong team culture.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• Full project management experience within the commercial construction sector, preferably with high-end residential experience
• Proven experience managing large-scale commercial projects ($15m+)
• Strong leadership and mentorship abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a passion for managing client and team relationships
• Strong business acumen within the construction sector
• Experience managing project expenditures and monitoring cost-control measures
• Relevant tertiary or trade qualifications
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand construction legislation
• Familiarity with NZS 3910:2023 and contract administration processes

Effective communication skills, high attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are essential. The role requires a driven, flexible individual who can work under pressure at times and confidently manage projects and teams.
