Job summary

Optimal is seeking a Senior Product Engineer to join our Innovation team. This senior, full-stack role involves ownership of features from idea through delivery, collaborating with product, design, AI engineers, and a product designer to bring new insights to market quickly and iteratively.

You’ll lead architecture and craft, mentor teammates, and work across React, Ruby on Rails, and AWS to ship impactful research tools that scale with real-world usage.

Qualifications

• Senior full-stack Engineer with hands-on experience delivering product across the stack (frontend and backend).
• Strong product mindset – build with user in mind and care about the why as well as the how.
• Excellent frontend engineering with strong UI skills and performance mindset.
• Creative, opinionated, and able to prototype and polish with care.
• Leadership and ownership—lead projects from idea to delivery and mentor others.
• AI-curious: interest in integrating AI tools into user-facing products to improve software speed.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects end-to-end with ownership of meaningful features and initiatives from exploration to delivery.
• Shape projects with product and design, influencing architecture down to UI details.
• Design, build, and ship new research features that simplify complex tasks for users.
• Deliver across the full stack: React frontend, Ruby on Rails backend, deployed on AWS.
• Stay close to user needs and actively shape where the product goes through hands-on exploration.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and raise the bar for craft while mentoring teammates.
• Move fast and iterate, bringing ideas to market quickly and iterating based on usage.
