We are looking for a Senior Policy Advisor to join our Regulatory Assurance and Performance team. The Regulatory Assurance and Performance team supports regulatory system leaders across MBIE to improve the effectiveness of their regulatory systems and to provide assurance to the Chief Executive that MBIE regulatory systems are well managed.


The team has a broad and interesting work programme including:

  • Driving the establishment and continuous improvement of regulatory system governance in MBIE’s regulatory systems
  • Supporting MBIE regulatory system leaders to identify and manage regulatory system risks
  • Coordinating the development of MBIE’s Regulatory System Amendment Bills
  • Supporting MBIE to meet its regulatory management system commitments.

It’s a great role for an existing Senior Policy Advisor looking to position themselves for the move to Principal Policy Advisor by broadening their existing policy experience.

The role reports to the Head of Regulatory Assurance and Performance in in the Enterprise Strategy, Risk and Transformation Branch, which is part of MBIE’s Strategy and Assurance Group

We are keen to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience working in a range of regulatory systems and good knowledge of the machinery of government
  • Robust policy development skills (preferred) or transferrable skills from advisory, regulatory or legal roles
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • The ability to build strong and collaborative working relationships
  • The legal right to live and work in New Zealand
