ASB Bank seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to help shape the Wealth Tribe by improving platform reliability, security and automation across Windows and Linux. You’ll work across on‑prem and growing cloud environments, driving observability, vulnerability management and scalable CI/CD practices.

You’ll partner with engineering squads to reduce manual effort and implement automation, while promoting Site Reliability Engineering and reliability initiatives across New Zealand wealth platforms.

Senior Platform Engineer (Software Consultant)

About The Team

Wealth Tribe exists to empower New Zealanders to grow their wealth by delivering expert investment solutions and accelerating sustainable financial progress. The Tribe supports the technology, platforms and digital experiences that underpin services such as KiwiSaver, investment products and wealth management offerings, helping customers build confidence in their financial future.

Unlike many engineering roles, this position isn’t tied to a single squad or application. You’ll work across the Tribe’s technology landscape, partnering with engineering teams to improve platform reliability, infrastructure capability, automation and operational excellence.

You’ll also play a key role in uplifting how Wealth Tribe manages platform security, vulnerability remediation and patching across a large estate of Windows and Linux servers. As the Tribe's dedicated platform and infrastructure specialist, you’ll help shape the future operating model while delivering meaningful improvements today.

About The Role

This is a senior technical role that combines platform engineering, infrastructure operations and Site Reliability Engineering.

You’ll work across a predominantly on-premises environment with growing cloud adoption, helping teams manage and improve critical Windows and Linux platforms while driving greater automation, observability and operational excellence.

Initially, you’ll partner closely with existing platform and engineering teams to understand the current environment, support platform operations, vulnerability management and patching activities, and identify opportunities for improvement. Over time, you’ll help shape the future state by reducing manual effort, improving operational processes, strengthening reliability practices and introducing automation that allows teams to operate more efficiently.

A significant focus of the role will be leading vulnerability management and patching activities across the Wealth Tribe environment, helping improve security outcomes while developing more automated and sustainable operating practices.

This role offers a unique balance of hands‑on engineering and strategic thinking. You’ll be expected to roll up your sleeves when needed while also stepping back to identify broader opportunities, influence direction and drive meaningful platform improvements across the Tribe.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise critical Windows and Linux server environments
• Drive vulnerability remediation and platform security improvements
• Improve patching processes through automation and engineering-led solutions
• Support reliable, secure and highly available services across Wealth Tribe
• Design and implement operational tooling, monitoring and alerting solutions
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting platform and infrastructure delivery
• Improve observability through dashboards, metrics, logging and alerting
• Identify operational risks and implement preventative controls
• Participate in incident response, problem management and post-incident reviews
• Develop automation that improves platform management, security and operational efficiency
• Partner with engineering teams to promote Site Reliability Engineering principles and practices
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures
• Influence platform strategy and recommend improvements that enhance reliability and reduce operational effort
• Collaborate across squads to solve complex platform and infrastructure challenges
• Participate in on-call support when required

About You

You’re an experienced platform, infrastructure or Site Reliability Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and improving the way technology operates.

You’re equally comfortable supporting critical production systems, automating repetitive work, engineering more resilient solutions or helping teams adopt better operational practices. You enjoy understanding how things work beneath the surface and are motivated by finding smarter, more scalable ways to solve problems.

You’ll bring strong technical depth, a pragmatic approach to problem solving and the ability to balance operational excellence with longer-term strategic thinking. Most importantly, you’ll enjoy working collaboratively and influencing positive change across a complex technology environment.

Key Skills & Experience

Must Have

• 10+ years’ experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, Site Reliability Engineering or related disciplines
• Strong Windows and Linux server administration experience
• Proven experience supporting and operating enterprise-scale infrastructure environments
• Expertise in PowerShell and Python scripting
• Experience developing automation solutions across infrastructure and operational processes
• Strong vulnerability management and patching experience
• Experience supporting production systems within complex enterprise environments
• Azure cloud experience and exposure to hybrid infrastructure environments
• Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with Git-based source control and modern DevOps practices
• Strong monitoring, observability and operational support experience
• Experience driving reliability, operational improvement or SRE-focused initiatives
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to influence technical direction and platform improvement
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Highly Desirable

• AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service) experience
• Experience working in Site Reliability Engineering or Platform Engineering teams
• Experience with Ansible or similar automation and orchestration tools
• Experience with observability platforms and monitoring tooling
• Exposure to API gateway technologies such as Kong
• Experience supporting enterprise application hosting platforms
• Experience improving patching and vulnerability management processes through automation
• Certificate management and enterprise networking experience
• Experience working within large-scale or highly regulated environments
• Azure Administrator Certification (AZ-104) or equivalent
