Job summary

The Department of Conservation (DOC) invites applications for a Senior Permissions Advisor. This permanent, full-time position can be based in Dunedin, Christchurch, or Wellington, with other NZ locations considered for the right candidate.

Roles may be fully remote for certain bases, contributing to conservation on public land and wildlife protections. You will process applications, provide technical guidance, and prepare quality reports for decisions, while building stakeholder relationships

Qualifications

Strong analytical skills and ability to translate analysis into professional quality reports.
Confident and effective communicator who builds trust with others.
Solid understanding of statutory work and the legislation the Department operates with.
Knowledge of conservation regulation and legislative framework.
Experience in project management, leading process improvements.
Mentoring and coaching abilities; capable of handling multiple tasks with planning tools.
Solution-focused with understanding of planning/legislative processes.

Responsibilities

Support the application process and provide technical support to peers on submitted applications.
Hold pre-application discussions and perform critical assessment and analysis of complex cases.
Produce high-quality written reports for final decisions.
Collaborate within an inclusive team process to ensure professional outputs.
Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and customers.
