Job summary

Transpower New Zealand, a national grid owner and system operator, is seeking a specialist payroll expert to ensure over 1,100 employees are paid accurately and on time. You will collaborate with HR, Finance and IT to maintain payroll processes, HRIS records and reporting.

The role is based in Wellington within a Financial Operations team that values adaptability, process improvements, and compliance, with flexible start/finish times and a strong focus on service excellence.

Qualifications

• At least five years’ payroll experience with NZPPA certification or equivalent.
• Advanced working knowledge of payroll and HRIS systems including Dayforce aPay, Oracle or comparable enterprise payroll systems.
• Strong understanding of New Zealand employment legislation and its payroll impact.
• Good understanding of payroll audit routines, reconciliations and internal controls, plus process mapping.
• Experience contributing to payroll system upgrades, integrations, testing or improvements.
• Ability to provide clear, practical payroll advice to employees, managers, HR and Finance.

Responsibilities

• Managing fortnightly and off-cycle payroll, including employee changes, leave, benefits, deductions and HRIS records.
• Providing payroll reporting to support HR processes, legal advice and ad-hoc financial reporting.
• Processing ACC claims and payroll-related payments to external bodies.
• Supporting general ledger reconciliations and year-end processes.
• Supporting Finance Systems with payroll system issues and upgrades.
• Improving and documenting payroll processes and driving automation.
