Job summary

DEFEND in Wellington seeks a Senior Network Security Operations Engineer to lead hands-on network security operations, manage complex faults and critical incidents, and drive restoration and resilience for customer networks. This role combines technical leadership with mentoring and on-call responsibilities in a 24/7 rotation.

You should bring deep networking and security expertise, strong judgement, and the ownership mindset to steer problems to resolution.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of networking and network security principals applicable to complex customer environments.
• Experience in incident response, troubleshooting and fault resolution.
• Experience in network operations and support with ability to lead technically.
• Collaborative mindset with passion for teamwork, mentoring, and capability development.
• Excellent written and verbal communications to convey technical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead, deliver, and support technical solutions to customers.
• Mentor junior team members; serve as first escalation point.
• Perform incident investigation and analysis to assess severity and impact.
• Diagnose complex faults; lead resolution development and delivery.
• Identify risks and improvements; recommend changes for security and resilience.
• Ensure changes follow established change management practices.
• Provide technical leadership for secure, reliable delivery of network services.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for rapid response.
• Maintain and promote accurate technical documentation.
