Job summary

Fabrum, based in Christchurch, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design from concept to manufacturing, shaping best-practice systems and expanding the team's capabilities.

You'll deliver high-impact engineering solutions in cryogenics and hydrogen projects, mentor engineers, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (or higher).
• 8+ years’ relevant engineering experience, with hands‑on exposure to manufacturing environments.
• Strong proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks), including 3D modelling, assemblies, and drawings.
• Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver practical, well‑considered solutions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks).

About The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-impact engineering solutions while helping shape best-practice systems and lifting capability across the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture

Key Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (or higher)
• 8+ years’ relevant engineering experience, with hands‑on exposure to manufacturing environments
• Strong proficiency in CAD (preferably SolidWorks), including 3D modelling, assemblies, and drawings
• Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver practical, well‑considered solutions
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams

Nice to Have

• Experience in process industries (e.g. oil & gas, dairy, energy)
• Familiarity with pressure systems or cryogenic applications
• Knowledge of international standards (e.g. ASME BPVC, ASME B31.3, AS1210)
• Working towards or holding CPEng status
• Experience working in multidisciplinary project environments
