Job summary

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is seeking a Senior Information Security Advisor to lead critical information security work within the Service for the Future programme. You will provide expert security advice on MSD systems, practices and new initiatives, including C&A assessments.

You will design and implement risk-based information assurance activities, develop training materials, and foster a culture of information responsibility across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Expert in information security with PSR and NZISM knowledge.
• Experience in risk management, security policy development and compliance assurance.
• Able to manage complexity and ambiguity to deliver outcomes.
• Strong communication and relationship skills with stakeholders at all levels.
• Collaborative and strategic thinker connecting advice across operations.
• Proven ability to mentor and raise team capability.
• Public sector familiarity and experience in large, complex environments is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Providing expert security advice and guidance on MSD's systems, practices, and new initiatives - including Certification and Accreditation (C&A) assessments.
• Designing and implementing risk-based information assurance activities aligned with national security requirements and legislation.
• Developing and leading training and guidance materials, embedding a culture of information responsibility throughout the organisation.
• Building strong internal and external relationships, including cross-agency collaboration.
• Leading assurance reporting, making data-informed recommendations to improve security maturity and mitigate risks.
