Job Description

Kōrero mō te tūranga (about the role)

If you enjoy sharing knowledge, building capability, and supporting a culture of safety and continuous improvement then look no further.

We’re looking for an adaptable, delivery-focused Senior Health & Safety Specialist to join our First Principles team. In this role, you’ll work as part of a small team leading the design and implementation of health and safety initiatives that are innovative, practical, and aligned with best practice. You’ll be a key driver of continuous improvement, using your project management expertise and writing skills to deliver solutions that are both strategic and user-friendly.

Working closely with the H&S operations team, you'll:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of H&S projects (first up HSMS)—scoping, planning, executing, and evaluating initiatives that align with business goals and legislative requirements.
  • Support wider team with other big pieces of work like Critical Risk and Contractor Management.
  • Develop plain-English policies, procedures, and communications that are easy to understand and apply across the business.
  • Collaborate across all levels of the organisation to embed new initiatives and support change management.
  • Use analytics to inform decision-making, support reporting, and contribute to executive and board-level papers.

This role is ideally located at our Bell Block office, however we are keen to hear from people based in Hamilton or Christchurch.

Qualifications

As well as being someone who can hit the ground running, with passion and good energy, you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. H&S, business, communications)
  • 5+ years experience working in the health and safety space.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, able to engage and influence at different levels.
  • Experience pivoting to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Proven experience in project management and policy/procedure writing.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and analytical skills.

It'd be great if you have formal training or certification in project management, as well as experience in design thinking and strategy.

What’s In It For You

You’ll be valued for who you are, rewarded for what you do and supported to thrive. We’ll sweeten your salary with a host of extra benefits including an STI opportunity, additional leave entitlements, flexible working arrangements and free insurances and health checks. We’ll fuel your professional development, keep you at the top of your game and help you build the career you want. Our award-winning wellness programme recognises you’re more than the job you do and supports you with initiatives like an annual wellness grant and access to professional wellbeing services for you and your whānau. You’ll get to work in a safe, healthy environment, supported by great people who want to see you succeed.
