About the Role

Are you a natural connector with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for uncovering the truth?

Do you thrive in dynamic environments where no two days are the same? The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is looking for a skilled and adaptable Senior Field Intelligence Officer OR Field Intelligence Officer to join our national field intelligence team.

We’re seeking candidates who bring a mix of field experience, analytical thinking, and interpersonal skills. You’ll need to be comfortable working in ambiguous situations, making sound judgements, and engaging with a wide range of people.

You will identify and gather sources of information using a variety of methods, working within legal and operational parameters to meet tactical, operation, and strategic intelligence requirements, ensuring all relevant information is explored to develop credible intelligence for an identifies and tasked regulatory and/or intelligence outcome.

Senior Field Intelligence Officer

  • Proven experience in a relevant intelligence field
  • Proven experience with complex, ambiguous and sensitive collection activities
  • Proven experience in mentoring and coaching other intelligence professionals as part of the broader technical capability development and culture of sharing expertise.

Field Intelligence Officer

  • Proven ability to build and manage key strategic relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships, maintaining confidentiality, trust and credibility at a variety of levels
  • Can-do positive and proactive attitude
Skills and Experience Required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – able to build rapport and trust quickly.
  • Sound judgement and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including short periods away from home.
  • A current Full New Zealand driver’s licence.
  • NZ citizenship or residence class visa (if based in NZ).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a national security clearance.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in intelligence collection, law enforcement, defence, or regulatory environments.
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Understanding of MBIE’s operating environment and national security systems.
