Job summary

Mekano Talent is seeking a senior quantity surveying/estimating professional to lead the estimating function for varied projects across the South Island. Based in Otago with a clear pathway into leadership, you will drive first-principles estimates, cost plans and tender submissions for commercial and high-end residential work.

You will run end-to-end tender processes, price risks, conduct feasibility studies, and mentor junior staff while ensuring strict cost control and value engineering

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years New Zealand quantity surveying or estimating experience.
• Main contractor experience is essential.
• Sound knowledge of NZS 4202, NZS 3902, 3910 and 3915, and NZIA Conditions of Contract.
• Confident reading drawings from the full range of design consultants.
• Strong analytical skills and real attention to detail.
• Diploma in Construction (Quantity Surveying) and CostCon or CostX experience preferred.
• A genuine interest in developing people and the ambition to step into a management role.
• A valid and clean New Zealand driver licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead first principles estimates, cost plans and tender submissions for commercial and high end residential projects.

• Identify and price commercial, construction, programme, health and safety and subcontractor risk.
• Carry out feasibility studies and early stage budgeting, and contribute to ECI and negotiated work.
• Brief project teams after award on pricing assumptions, risks and scope.
• Mentor junior estimators and quantity surveyors, review their work and help lift estimating standards across the business.

Job description

One of the South Island's longest standing construction companies with a network of offices across Otago, the Queenstown Lakes, Southland and the Mackenzie. The work is varied and technically demanding, from commercial developments, wineries, heritage restoration, high end architectural homes.

The role

Reporting to the GM of Commercial, you will be the senior technical voice in the estimating team, with a clear pathway into an estimating leadership role.
