Job summary

HarperSmith is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist in Christchurch to lead diverse environmental projects and provide practical client advice. You will manage investigations, consenting, and compliance, while mentoring junior staff and fostering client relationships across infrastructure and development sectors.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• 8+ years' experience within an environmental consulting environment.
• Current CEnvP certification and/or Certified Practitioner – Contaminated Sites Specialisation (CEnvP CS).
• Strong understanding of New Zealand environmental legislation and regulatory processes.
• Experience delivering contaminated land, environmental assessment and consenting projects.
• Excellent report writing, communication and client management skills.
• Commercially minded with the ability to develop lasting client relationships.
• Passion for mentoring others and contributing to a collaborative team culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental assessments and investigations across a range of projects.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports and environmental documentation.
• Manage resource consent and environmental approval processes.
• Provide contaminated land assessment and remediation advice where required.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, councils and regulatory authorities.
• Manage project delivery, budgets and programme performance.
• Mentor and support junior environmental professionals.
• Contribute to business development and identify new opportunities.
