Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design, develop, and maintain embedded software platforms for Linux‑based systems within the Frequency and Timing Systems Business Unit.

You will configure Yocto build environments, translate marketing requirements into engineering specs, and collaborate across product, hardware, and QA teams. 8+ years in embedded software, C/C++, Python or Bash, ARM, and Git experience are expected; strong debugging and communication skills are

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• 8+ years of embedded software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with embedded Linux systems and Yocto Project configuration.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
• Experience with bootloaders, Linux kernel configuration, device trees, and BSP development.

Microchip’s Frequency and Timing Systems Business Unit is the world’s leading source of precise timing and synchronization solutions. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer with strong expertise in embedded systems development and Yocto‑based Linux platform configuration. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical capability with the ability to translate high‑level product and marketing objectives into clear engineering requirements and implementation plans.

You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining embedded software platforms while collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams including product management, marketing, hardware engineering, and QA.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded software solutions for Linux‑based systems

Requirements / Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in embedded software development
• Strong hands‑on experience with embedded Linux systems and Yocto Project configuration
• Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python or Bash
• Experience working with bootloaders, Linux kernel configuration, device trees, and BSP development
• Proven ability to interpret business or marketing requirements and convert them into actionable engineering requirements
• Experience with version control systems such as Git
• Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills
• Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ARM‑based embedded platforms
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build systems
• Knowledge of networking protocols, security, or real‑time systems
• Experience working in Agile development environments
• Prior experience supporting product development from concept through production release
