Job summary

New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) is seeking three Principal Engineers, Detection and Response to strengthen its cyber defence capability through advanced threat detection, threat hunting and incident response in a senior hands-on role.

You'll work across SIEM, XDR and EDR platforms to improve coverage, reduce time to detect threats and protect critical services. This role includes on-call duties and a strong focus on practical outcomes and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Senior detection engineering experience in complex environments.
• Proven ability to lead detection improvement efforts and incident response.
• Familiarity with SIEM, XDR or EDR platforms and threat intel.

Responsibilities

• Design, tune and maintain detection rules and analytics across SIEM/XDR/EDR.
• Lead threat hunting and translate threat intel into actionable content.
• Identify gaps and drive continuous improvement of detection capabilities.
• Develop automation, SOAR playbooks and response workflows for security operations.
• Provide specialist expertise for security tool evaluations and deployment readiness.
• Act as tactical responder for significant cyber incidents.
