Job summary

Xero is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to partner with database engineers and product teams to ensure resilience, quality, and performance of our core database platform. You will guide migrations from SQL Server RDS to Aurora Postgres RDS and apply AI tooling to optimise day-to-day operations while proactively managing risks and releases.

Based in New Zealand or Australia, you will join a collaborative team working across ANZ with flexible working arrangements and opportunities to contribute

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in SQL Server and SQL Server RDS with a focus on query analysis and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with Aurora Postgres RDS and performing end-to-end migrations.
• A pragmatic owner of technical deliverables, able to identify risks early and implement sustainable solutions.
• Clear communication to translate database complexities for product teams and collaborate across disciplines.
• Curiosity to leverage AI tooling to streamline engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimise day-to-day operations across SQL Server and SQL Server RDS fleets.
• Plan and execute end-to-end migrations from SQL Server to Aurora Postgres RDS.
• Integrate AI tools into engineering workflows to boost efficiency in query analysis and maintenance.
• Partner with product teams to advise on schema design, query tuning, and observability using AWS tools.
