Job summary

DataTorque, a New Zealand IT company, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own the data warehouse behind our analytics platform and enable analytics and AI use cases for tax administration. You will guide technical direction, lead design decisions, and support engineers to deliver data for analytics, ML, and AI initiatives.

Qualifications

• Senior data engineer with production machine learning experience (ETL/ELT, SQL, data validation and transformation).
• Experience with Airflow 3, dbt Core and dlt.
• Experience with PostgreSQL as a warehouse engine.
• Experience with Python, scikit-learn and MLflow.
• Experience with Evidently or similar tools for drift detection.
• Knowledge of tax administration or debt collections is a bonus.
• Experience with Power BI or another BI tool is a bonus.
• OpenMetadata experience is a bonus.
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to consult and influence stakeholders.
• A problem solving and analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Consistently takes responsibility for their work and works well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design data architectures optimised for machine learning and AI.
• Enable high-quality data for model training and inference.
• Use AI assisted tooling to improve development speed, data quality and platform reliability.
• Design data warehouses underpinning analytics platform.
• Develop and optimise dbt Core and dlt models for analytics and reporting.
• Build and support ETL and ELT pipelines using SQL and Python.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams to enable self service analytics across compliance and risk use cases.
