ASB Bank is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Financial Crime Tribe on a full-time basis. Based in Albany, the role is hybrid, focusing on designing, delivering, and operating world-class data solutions that span on-prem and cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of data engineering experience in a data-rich environment.
• Strong SQL skills and deep data warehousing knowledge (Kimball).
• Experience with both on-prem and cloud-based tools such as SQL Server, Snowflake, DBT and StreamSets.

We are seeking a fine-tuned and skilled Senior Data Engineerto join our Financial Crime Tribe on a full-time basis. In this role, you will work on innovative projects, support BAU operations, and collaborate closely with our internal business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for data-driven innovation. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to the design, delivery, and operation of world-class data solutions. You will help your autonomous squad drive uplift in the data capability at ASB by contributing to the planning, implementation, and support of on-premises and cloud-based solutions that are fit for the future of New Zealand. Being a financial institution, there is a strong emphasis on information security and your ability to “do the right thing”. Main tools & technology as a data engineer are dbt, Snowflake, StreamSets, and SQL Server. Workflow orchestration, CI/CD, and uplifting operational support and observability are some of the future growth areas, and experience in these would be beneficial. Note that this is not a report writer/designer role. We have a large analyst community who are experts in reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI and data querying. This role is about integrating the right data across our Financial Crime Technology reliably, so that we can keep our customers, and New Zealand, safe from fraudsters and money-launderers.

In this role, you will:

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and data engineering processes

• Support and mentor team members, contributing to capability uplift across the team
• Champion continuous improvement across data platforms, processes, and ways of working
• Scale the use of cloud data tools, particularly StreamSets, dbt, and Snowflake, to design new patterns and solutions.
• Ensure adherence to ASB’s risk, governance, and control frameworks

You will bring to the role five or more years of experience from a data-savvy organisation. You are familiar with working in an Agile environment. You enjoy working within a team environment and can build and maintain effective relationships across a diverse range of customer and stakeholder groups. Technically, you will have strong SQL skills and in-depth knowledge in data warehousing, including Kimball. Experience with both on-prem and cloud-based tools such as SQL Server, Snowflake, DBT, and StreamSets is crucial. Experience with Oracle DB and familiarity with Azure is a bonus.
