Site Reliability Engineer (Data Platform) (Software Specialist)
Build the automation that keeps critical services running
Keeping enterprise-scale platforms secure, stable and up to date takes more than operational excellence. It requires smart automation, modern engineering practices and people who can solve problems at scale.
We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (Data Platform) to help modernise and automate the systems and processes that support hundreds of critical database services across ASB. You'll play a key role in transforming how patching and server management is delivered, building solutions that reduce manual effort, improve reliability and help the team respond to increasingly ambitious operational timeframes.
This is an opportunity to work on complex infrastructure challenges at enterprise scale, combining hands‑on engineering with automation, observability and continuous improvement. If you enjoy solving operational problems, improving systems, and seeing the impact of your work in production environments, you'll find plenty to get stuck into here.
You'll join a collaborative team within ASB's Data Platform environment responsible for supporting and evolving the database services that underpin critical business systems. The team manages a large and complex estate, with a strong focus on platform reliability, patching, automation and operational excellence.
As operational timeframes continue to reduce and expectations continue to grow, the team is investing heavily in automation to improve scalability, resilience and efficiency. You'll work alongside experienced database and platform specialists who value curiosity, ownership, practical problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
This role exists to help modernise and automate the management of a large‑scale database and server environment. A key focus will be improving how infrastructure patching is planned, executed, monitored and remediated through automation.
You'll work across server management, patching automation, observability, reporting and operational tooling, using technologies such as PowerShell, Python, Airflow and Ansible to build solutions that improve efficiency, reduce operational risk and strengthen platform reliability. You'll help create more resilient and sustainable ways of working while contributing to the ongoing evolution of our automation capabilities.
You're an engineer who enjoys solving infrastructure and operational problems through automation. You understand that keeping platforms reliable, secure and compliant requires more than simply maintaining systems. You're motivated by finding better ways of working, reducing manual effort and building solutions that scale.
You'll likely come from a Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or Automation Engineering background and be comfortable working close to operational systems. You're hands‑on, curious and pragmatic, with strong troubleshooting skills and an appetite for learning new technologies.
You’ll enjoy working in a collaborative environment where you'll have the opportunity to influence processes, introduce new ideas and help shape the future of automation within a critical technology domain. The successful person will be comfortable working across multiple disciplines and willing to step in wherever they can add value.
At ASB, we're committed to helping our people thrive both professionally and personally. We offer:
