Job summary

Randstad New Zealand is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer to lead Snowflake-based solutions. You will design, implement, and optimize data platforms while collaborating with clients across industries.

You will mentor engineers, drive discovery sessions, and deliver enterprise-scale analytics solutions using Snowflake, dbt, AWS, and Azure.

Qualifications

About The Role

This a hands‑on role requiring a combination of technical delivery, solution architecture, analytics engineering, and stakeholder engagement. Work directly with clients to understand business challenges, lead discovery activities, facilitate workshops, define solution approaches and deliver modern data platforms that align technology outcomes with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

This role provides the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor engineers, and be a trusted advisor across a variety of industries and data transformation initiatives.

• Data Engineering & Platform Development
• Architecture & Data Modelling
• Cloud 7 Platform Engineering - Design and implement solutions utilising AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Athena, EventBridge, Kinesis, and related technologies.
• Design and implement solutions utilising Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Lake Storage.
• Data Governance, Leadership, Solution Design & Client Engagement

SKILLS & EXPERIENCES

• 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Warehousing, Data Architecture, or related disciplines.
• Significant hands‑on experience working with Snowflake and dbt in production environments.
• Particularly interested in candidates with experience in legacy migration from IBM DB2/SAS/Oracle to Snowflake.
• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise‑scale cloud data solutions
• Experience leading stakeholder workshops, discovery activities, and requirements gathering sessions.
• Experience delivering end‑to‑end data platform implementations from design through production support.
• Experience in Snowflake, including architecture, solution design, security, governance, data sharing, workload optimisation, and performance tuning.
• Strong hands‑on experience designing and building modern analytics solutions using dbt.
• Extensive experience developing, testing, and maintaining dbt models, transformations, macros, reusable frameworks, and deployment pipelines.
• Demonstrated experience implementing Analytics Engineering best practices within Snowflake environments.
• Experience building analytics‑ready data products, curated datasets, semantic models, and reporting layers within Snowflake.
• Strong experience optimising Snowflake schemas, data models, SQL workloads, and query performance.
• Experience implementing CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and deployment frameworks for dbt projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a pragmatic delivery mindset.
• Ability to work across multiple clients and projects within a consulting environment.
• Preferred Certifications - Snowflake Certification(s), dbt Certification, Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203), AWS Certified Data Engineer or AWS Solutions Architect
