As we continue to expand our presence, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our innovative team based in Auckland. Oral health lifts wider health outcomes, so we elevate the health for millions of patients by bringing them into dental practices.

Job Overview
We are in search of an experienced Senior Data Engineer to lead and contribute to our data science initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, machine learning, and statistical analysis. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and building advanced solutions to drive business insights from data for use in our products and supporting systems.

What you’ll be doing

  • Be a key team member in guiding our data science journey.
  • Using industry best practices and experience in defining methods & techniques to find better outcomes.
  • Partner with stakeholders, business teams and senior engineers to deliver effective data solutions.
  • Perform data mining, exploration, and analysis.
  • Create data visualizations, reports, and dashboards.
  • Writing code to automatically generate insights from data.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance within pipelines and storage solutions.
  • Optimising queries and database performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Implementing data modelling techniques and design schemas that meet business requirements.
  • Guiding and assisting the development team in capturing relevant data for our organisational goals.
  • Identifying where data science techniques could be applied.
  • Learning new technologies and skills to keep up with current trends and technologies in the industry.
  • Coaching team members in your area of expertise.
  • Participating meaningfully in regular scrum team rituals such as daily stand ups, backlog grooming and sprint retrospectives.

Skills and Experience

  • Developing expertise in Python, R or similar data-science-adjacent language – experience with C# is advantageous, but not essential.
  • Developing expertise in turning raw data into actionable or meaningful insights.
  • Experience with big data pipelines.
  • Strong SQL skills for querying and managing large dataset.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure (Azure / AWS).
  • Developing understanding and applying data science concepts.
  • Developing understanding and applying machine learning concepts.
