About the role

As Data Systems Senior Advisor, you’ll play a specialist role in strengthening KiwiRail’s approach to safety, health, and wellbeing. You’ll provide clear, accurate, and timely data insights to support risk-based decision making across the organisation.

You’ll design and deliver dashboards and reports that turn complex safety data into clear insights. You’ll also guide improvements in data collection and reporting, working with teams across KiwiRail and external partners to ensure our systems remain reliable and future ready.

This role is based in Auckland and reports to the Data Insights and Reporting Manager.

What you will bring

We’re looking for someone who can combine technical expertise with a collaborative and safety-focused mindset. You’ll bring:

  • Strong experience in data analysis, reporting, and visualisation.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Power BI, SQL, and data modelling.
  • Knowledge of data governance, quality, and security principles.
  • Ability to translate data into insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Clear and confident communication skills.
  • A commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Qualifications and experience:
  • A degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience in large-scale data system design, development, and implementation.
