Mō te tūranga | About the Role

At Westpac, cyber security is about more than protecting systems. It's about helping safeguard the trust our customers place in us every day.

We're looking for a Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join our Cyber Detect & Respond team. This is an opportunity for an experienced cyber professional who enjoys solving complex problems, responding to emerging threats, and helping others grow along the way.

As a senior member of the team, you'll play a key role in strengthening Westpac's cyber resilience. You'll lead incident response activities, drive improvements across our security monitoring and detection capabilities, and provide coaching and mentorship to fellow analysts. Working alongside talented cyber and technology professionals, you'll help shape how we detect, respond to, and stay ahead of evolving cyber threats.

Whether you're coming from security operations, engineering, threat detection, incident response, or another cyber discipline, we'd love to hear how your experience could help us continue building a safer future for our customers and communities.

In this role, you'll:

  • Lead the investigation and response to complex cyber security incidents, helping contain, eradicate, and recover from threats.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to analysts, sharing knowledge and supporting capability growth across the team.

  • Monitor, analyse, and triage security events to identify and respond to potential threats.

  • Drive improvements to detection use cases, alert tuning, and response processes to continuously enhance our security operations capability.

  • Collaborate with Cyber, Engineering, and Technology teams to strengthen security controls and improve response readiness.

  • Contribute to threat hunting, automation initiatives, and continuous improvement programmes.

  • Support the development of a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.

  • Participate in a shared on-call roster, helping provide incident response support when required.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

We're interested in your potential as much as your experience. If you meet most of the below, we'd encourage you to apply.

You may bring:

  • Experience working in cyber security, security operations, incident response, security engineering, penetration testing, or a related field.

  • Strong technical knowledge across cyber security, networking, cloud platforms, infrastructure, and modern technology environments.

  • Experience leading or owning security investigations and incident response activities.

  • A naturally curious and investigative mindset with the ability to identify patterns, think critically, and solve complex problems.

  • Hands-on experience with security technologies such as SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, or similar cyber security platforms.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of audiences.

  • A collaborative approach and passion for supporting, coaching, and developing others.

  • Industry certifications such as GIAC, CompTIA, CISSP, or similar are advantageous but not essential.
