NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to lead complex regulatory work across the Northern/North Auckland region. You will apply legislation and policy to assess non-compliance and deliver proportionate, defensible outcomes, with regular travel to operators.

The role requires strong judgement, high professional standards and capability to mentor others while engaging with operators and regulatory partners. A tertiary qualification or relevant experience is required.

Help improve safety outcomes across the commercial transport sectorBring your expertise to support best regulatory practicePermanent opportunity based in Whangarei or AucklandTe Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityWe have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Compliance Officer to join our Northern/North Auckland team.You will lead complex regulatory work involving commercial transport operators, using evidence and sound judgement to address non-compliance fairly and proportionately.Responsibilities include:Leading complex and high-risk audits, investigations and reviews, applying legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks to manage risks and make robust, proportionate decisionsGathering, analysing and evaluating evidence, including conducting interviews and assessing technical and operational informationProducing clear, impartial, evidence-based reports and correspondence that meet high professional standards and regulatory requirementsEngaging with operators, industry representatives and other regulatory agencies to address compliance issues and support safety outcomesSharing expertise and mentoring colleagues to support their development and consistent regulatory practiceTravel is a key part of this role, with regular visits to operators across the Auckland/Northland regions and occasional travel elsewhere as business needs require.
