Job summary

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is seeking a Senior Commercial Portfolio Manager for Wellington on a fixed-term until 30 June 2027. You will lead enterprise-level commercial strategy and delivery across a critical portfolio, while driving supplier performance and SRM across professional services and facilities portfolios.

Qualifications

• Significant procurement and commercial management experience within complex organisations.
• Proven success developing and implementing commercial strategies and leading complex procurement initiatives.
• Strong supplier relationship management experience, including oversight of strategic or high-risk suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Lead portfolio roadmaps and sourcing pipelines with strategic alignment across the full commercial lifecycle.
• Develop and implement Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) strategies.
• Lead high-stakes negotiations to secure robust commercial outcomes and supplier commitments.
• Lead and support cross-agency projects from planning through delivery with commercial leadership.
• Foster strong supplier partnerships to unlock innovation and value beyond cost.
• Shape sourcing strategies aligned to MSD’s long-term vision and governance needs.
• Strengthen contract management capability through coaching and practice improvement.
• Manage critical relationships internally and externally to drive collaboration and commercial success.
• Identify and manage commercial risk ensuring robust governance and sustainable outcomes.
