Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is recruiting a Senior Clinical Pharmacist (Oncology) in Taranaki for a permanent, part-time (.5 FTE) role at Taranaki Base Hospital. You will lead high-level oncology pharmacy services and contribute to patient-centred cancer care.

Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a current annual practising certificate from the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
  • Previous oncology clinical experience and/or extensive hospital pharmacy experience (at least 3 years).
  • A post-graduate qualification in a relevant clinical area is highly desirable.

  • Deliver high-level clinical pharmacy services in oncology, including medication review, patient education, and treatment optimisation.

  • Provide expert advice on oncology protocols, treatment regimens, and supportive care strategies.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance within the oncology setting.
  • This role includes the opportunity to participate in the on‑call roster with weekend shifts compensated at overtime rates.

About the Role

Are you a Pharmacist with experience in Oncology looking to deepen your impact in a specialised clinical setting? At Health New Zealand - Taranaki, you’ll be part of a team delivering life-changing treatments, in our up-and-coming brand new Te Hōpua Whakahauora | Taranaki Cancer Centre. This is a permanent, full-time position where your expertise in oncology pharmacy will directly contribute to the safe and effective treatment of patients. About the Team/Service/Location

Health New Zealand Taranaki Pharmacy Service is a collaborative and supportive department who provide safe and effective medication management across both Taranaki Base and Hawera hospitals. We uphold the highest standards in pharmaceutical supply, medicines safety, and clinical services, whilst constantly looking at ways to improve the service and care we deliver. Our staff work collaboratively in many multi-disciplinary teams across medical, nursing and allied health directorates with a shared focused on ensuring optimal patient-centred care.

Health New Zealand Taranaki is also fortunate to have its dedicated eMedication management team who work closely alongside our Pharmacy department to lead medication management in the various data and digital platforms across the hospital.

About you

You are an Oncology Pharmacist with a strong clinical foundation.

Your experience enables you to work autonomously, make informed clinical decisions, and contribute meaningfully to multidisciplinary teams.

While we offer opportunities for Pharmacists to upskill and gain specialised training in oncology pharmacy, we require prior experience in oncology practice for this position.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a current annual practising certificate from the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand, under the provisions of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (if you are applying from outside New Zealand, please tell us the registration route that applies, and what stage of that process you are currently at).
  • Previous oncology clinical experience and/or extensive hospital pharmacy experience (at least 3 years).
  • A commitment to continual professional development and the ability to keep abreast of current knowledge and accepted practices.
  • A post-graduate qualification in a relevant clinical area is highly desirable.
