Job summary

Stratford District Council is seeking a Senior Building Control Officer to join our Stratford team. The role blends office work with field site inspections, processing building consent applications, and offering technical guidance to applicants, builders and stakeholders.

You will mentor junior staff, uphold the Building Act 2004 and NZ Building Code, and contribute to regulatory outcomes. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) with a salary up to NZ$120,000 per annum, commensurate with

• Advanced knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and NZ Building Code(s).
• Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
• Time management and digital literacy.

Responsibilities

• Assess and process building consent applications per statutory requirements.
• Conduct site inspections for compliance with plans and standards.
• Provide technical guidance to applicants, builders and stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Undertake BWoF and swimming pool inspections.
• Mentor junior team members and support management.
