Job summary

BlackBull Group in Auckland is seeking a senior data analyst to join the core analytics team. You will report to the CIO and work with the CEO/COO, producing insights used to run the business and partnering with the Data Engineering Lead on reporting datasets.

You will analyse revenue, profitability, trading activity and client behaviour, build dashboards and run recurring reports using SQL, Excel and BI tools, and validate metrics for senior leadership. Experience with Claude AI tools is a plus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data analysis or BI.
• Advanced SQL: joins, CTEs and window functions.
• Hands-on dbt with production models, tests and docs.
• Strong Excel and BI skills (Power BI/Tableau).
• Experience with a cloud data warehouse.
• Hands-on Claude or similar AI tools for SQL and reporting.
• Ability to align priorities with senior stakeholders.
• Nice to have: brokerage/financial services, Redshift, Git, mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Analyse revenue, profitability, trading activity and client behaviour; explain findings to senior management.
• Build and run dashboards and recurring reports in SQL, Excel and BI tools.
• Track discrepancies, reconcile figures and validate metrics.
• Turn round urgent executive requests with hands-on data preparation when needed.
• Work with Data Engineering on reporting datasets, business logic and data quality.
• Document how metrics are defined and calculated, and onboard new analysts as the team grows.
