Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications across Java/Spring Boot stacks. You will drive solution design, lead collaborations with cross-functional teams, and ensure high quality software and API standards.

You\'ll mentor junior developers, contribute to SDLC documentation, and participate in continuous improvement, testing, and deployment processes to enhance performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• At least 7+ years of experience across backend and API development.
• Proficiency with server-side development - Java, Spring Boot.
• Experienced in designing and maintaining integrations with a wide variety of applications and APIs.
• Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.
• Strong knowledge of database schema design, transactions and queries.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications across back-end technologies.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and integration solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring system stability and after-hours support when required.
• Ensure best practice in API design, coding standards, performance and security.
• Collaborate with project teams from concept through delivery to meet requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.
• Create and maintain documentation throughout the SDLC to support transparency.
• Implement changes aligned with design specifications and evolving business needs.
• Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement to enhance performance and reliability.
• Maintain and refine support procedures to minimize downtime and support release processes.
