Job summary

The Treasury in Wellington is seeking an Analyst or Senior Analyst to join the Infrastructure, Security and Government team. You will work on transport policy, advise ministers, and contribute to broader policy areas across housing, justice, local government, and defence.

Analyst or Senior Analyst roles offer opportunity to lead projects, mentor colleagues, and develop policy and advisory skills in a high-priority government setting.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 18 months’ career experience for Analyst applications.
• A minimum of five years’ career experience for Senior Analyst applications.
• Interest in transport and infrastructure policy, budget processes and public financial management.
• Strong analytical foundation in finance, accounting, economics, or policy and advisory work.
• Strong relationship management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to inform ministers and decision makers.
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and deliver in a fast-paced public environment.
• Experience in transport/infrastructure policy and budget processes considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-impact, independent written and oral advice to the Minister of Finance on proposals needing Cabinet or Ministerial agreement.
• Lead high-profile projects as a Senior Analyst and mentor junior team members.
• Focus on transport policy while contributing to housing, local government and infrastructure work.
• Collaborate with senior representatives from other agencies and support central policy initiatives.
