Job summary

Te Tai Ōhanga – The Treasury invites applications for Analyst and Senior Analyst roles to shape transport policy and infrastructure investment. You will advise on policy issues, budgets, and public financial management, working with other agencies and the Minister of Finance’s office.

As a Senior Analyst, you will lead key projects, mentor junior staff, and provide independent written and oral advice for Cabinet decisions. Flexible work options and strong development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• A strong analytical foundation in finance, accounting, economics, or policy and advisory work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

An effective and efficient public sector and Crown balance sheet is at the heart of delivering higher living standards and wellbeing for New Zealanders. As an Analyst or Senior Analyst in the Infrastructure, Security and Government team within the Public Sector Performance division, you will have a particular focus on transport policy, while also contributing to the team's broader work across housing, justice, local government, infrastructure and defence. You will work closely with senior representatives from other agencies and interact frequently with the Minister of Finance's office. You will also provide high-impact, independent, written, and oral, advice to the Minister of Finance on proposals requiring Ministerial or Cabinet agreement. As a Senior Analyst, you will lead high-profile projects and provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

Ō pūmanawa | About You

At the heart of it, our work is about lifting the living standards for all New Zealanders. We are looking for social and savvy individuals who are keen to work on long-term, end-to-end projects, including the Government’s annual Budget.

You will have:

• A minimum of 18 months’ career experience for Analyst applications
• A minimum of five years’ career experience for Senior Analyst applications
• An interest in transport and infrastructure policy, budget processes and public financial management;
• A strong analytical foundation in finance, accounting, economics, or policy and advisory work;
• Strong relationship management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across internal and external stakeholders;
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to deliver clear and impactful analysis and advice to decision makers;
• The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with the transport/infrastructure sector, public finance policy, and/or Budget processes (including Vote work) would be a strong advantage but is not essential.

For suitable candidates with relevant skills, we will support you to develop in the role. If you have been successful in working with stakeholders and using analytical skills to find constructive ways through complex policy and financial problems, and you understand how to build positive relationships with external stakeholders, then we would like to hear from you. Specific expertise is not a requirement – we will support you to learn in the role.

Ko ngā hua | What we Offer

• Analyst: $91,339.30 - $107,458.00 per annum Senior Analyst: $127,621.55 - $150,143.00 per annum Appointments will be made at a salary point within the relevant range, taking into account the successful candidate's skills, experience, and internal relativities.
