Job summary

Datacom is seeking a Senior/Tech Lead AI Engineer to drive AI uplift across New Zealand and Australia. You will work in the Digital Engineering AI team, delivering AI-driven software and collaborating with cross-functional teams on cutting-edge projects.

Strong Python/TypeScript background and production AI delivery are essential. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement with opportunities to shape AI solutions for complex business challenges within a NZ/ANZ context.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional development experience (Python and/or TypeScript).
Delivery of at least one generative-AI application using Azure OpenAI/Microsoft Foundry, Amazon Bedrock or equivalent platform.
Experience managing context and integrating models with data/tools, including retrieval, embeddings, structured outputs and tool calling.
Ability to diagnose failures, handle API limits/timeouts, and verify quality and reliability of AI outputs and workflows.
Ability to understand customer needs, explain technical concepts and translate requirements into working solutions.
