Job summary

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) in Wellington is seeking a Senior Advisor Engagement to support the new online casino gambling regulatory and licensing framework. You will develop clear, audience-focused communications to help industry understand the system and empower consumers to make informed choices.

Working in the Online Gambling Team, you will write and coordinate content across web publications, newsletters, social media and internal channels, and lead communications projects

About Us

At the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), we deliver services, regulation and advice that support the everyday lives of New Zealanders. Within DIA, the Regulatory and Identity Services | Taituarā branch leads critical regulatory systems, working at the intersection of innovation, integrity and public trust to address emerging risks and help keep communities safe.


DIA is establishing a new regulator to deliver New Zealand's first licensing framework for online casino gambling through the Online Casino Gambling Act. The newly established Online Gambling Team will play a key role in shaping this new function, working with partners across New Zealand and internationally to oversee the sector and support an effective, modern regulatory system.


The role

As a Senior Advisor Engagement, you'll provide communications and engagement advice to support the implementation of New Zealand's new online casino gambling regulatory and licensing framework. You'll develop clear, audience-focused communications that help industry understand the new regulatory system and what it means for them, while also empowering New Zealand consumers to make informed choices about online casino gambling.


You'll bring strong writing and content skills, developing and coordinating communications across web publications, newsletters, social media, internal channels and other content. You'll also support proactive media activity, contribute to engagement initiatives and lead communications projects that help deliver the programme's priorities.


This position is Fixed Term to March 2027.


What you bring


  • Strong senior communications experience, with excellent writing, editing and content development skills

  • Experience developing communications for different audiences, with the ability to make complex or technical information clear and accessible

  • Experience working in a regulated, government or complex environment, ideally with either a focus on industry or consumers

  • Experience developing content across digital and internal channels, including web, publications, newsletters and social media

  • Proven ability to manage multiple communications activities, deliverables, and priorities at the same time

  • Sound media relations experience, including the ability to identify and support proactive media opportunities

Salary range

The salary range for this role is $100,359 - $124,891.
