Job summary

Australian Department of Home Affairs in Wellington seeks a Senior Advisor, Operational Readiness and Response to lead and support initiatives strengthening emergency readiness across NEMA and the wider sector. You will provide SME guidance, develop response arrangements and collaborate with stakeholders to enhance national preparedness.

The role sits in the National Operations Unit, with potential long hours during emergencies and a fixed-term arrangement to 25 June 2027.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support initiatives to strengthen emergency readiness and response capability across NEMA and the wider emergency management sector.
• Provide operational subject matter expertise, develop and improve response arrangements, and work with stakeholders to enhance preparedness.
• Contribute to delivery of National Operations programmes and ensure the National Crisis Management Centre is response-ready.
• Operate within the National Operations Unit, anticipating and responding to emergencies, including long hours or weekend shifts when required.
