Job summary

Te Wananga O Aotearoa seeks a Senior Accountant to join the Rangatahua team at Te Puna Mātauranga, Te Awamutu. You will ensure financial information integrity, provide expert accounting advice, and support sound decision-making across the organisation.

You will act as a trusted finance partner, delivering senior-level services to business units, ensuring compliance, accuracy, transparency and strong governance aligned with kaupapa Māori values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting or related discipline.
  • CAANZ status or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • At least 7 years of accounting experience in progressively senior roles.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong accounting systems capability.
  • Financial modelling, forecasting and trend analysis experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver accurate management reports and financial analysis.
  • Produce month-end and annual financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements and support budget and forecast development.
  • Conduct variance analysis, reconciliations and forecasting.
  • Review transactions and journal entries for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide technical accounting advice to managers and leaders.
  • Support audits and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Identify improvements to accounting processes and systems.
  • Coordinate complex projects and financial initiatives.
  • Train and mentor finance team members.

You are anaccomplished finance professional with a strong foundation in accountingprinciples and a proven track record of delivering high-quality financialservices in complex environments. You combine technical expertise withexcellent relationship management skills and the ability to communicatefinancial information clearly and confidently.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • ABachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • CharteredAccountant (CAANZ) status or an equivalent professional accountingqualification.
  • Atleast 7 years' accounting experience in progressively senior roles.
  • Extensiveknowledge of accounting principles, processes and financial reportingrequirements.
  • Provenexperience preparing financial statements and managing month-end andyear-end reporting processes.
  • AdvancedMicrosoft Excel skills and strong accounting systems capability.
  • Financialmodelling, forecasting and trend analysis expertise.
  • Stronganalytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data andprovide meaningful insights.
  • Excellentplanning, organisation and project management capabilities.
  • Exceptionalattention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strongwritten and verbal communication skills.
